The first-ever concrete modular, green, luxury hotel guest suites were topped off in Islamorada at the Florida Keys Cheeca Lodge, which is reopening December 15.
Jerry Johnson, owner of Cheeca Lodge & Spa, said, "We have been able to put up a green, concrete modular guest room wing in … 90 days, from pilings to topping off.”
The 840-sq-ft suites were delivered complete to the project with fully equipped bathrooms—from marble tile floors, granite counter tops, bath fixtures, and marble and glass rain showers, to all electrical wiring and cabling throughout the suite. The new units are being built to LEED specifications, with concrete roof, floors and walls, and high-impact glass windows that can resist winds up to a category 5 hurricane. The units were manufactured in Okeechobee and trucked down to the Islamorada site.
