Robert S. Amico Tapped By The McGraw-Hill Companies to Run F.W. Dodge, Leading Construction Information Provider

New York, October 2, 2000 - The McGraw-Hill Companies (NYSE: MHP), today announced the appointment of Robert S. Amico, 43, to senior vice president and general manager of F.W. Dodge, the construction industry's leading source for critical market data. Mr. Amico will be responsible for overseeing strategic vision and all day-to-day operations of the company.

Before joining The McGraw-Hill Companies Mr. Amico served as senior vice president of Global Business Solutions at Rand McNally & Company. During his nearly 10 years at Rand McNally, he was responsible for the operations of several subsidiary companies, including Rand McNally Allmaps Ltd. and Rand McNally Transportation Data Management (TDM), Inc. He also held responsibility for Rand McNally's core business to business and consumer sales organizations. As general manager of TDM (RMC's largest software business), Mr. Amico was a key contributor to RMC's growth in technology. Prior to joining Rand McNally, Mr. Amico served as an assistant vice president of sales and marketing administration for Dun & Bradstreet Corporation.

Mr. Amico earned an MBA in Finance from Syracuse University in 1981. He received his BS in Finance and Marketing from Syracuse in 1979 and received his AS in Business administration from Alfred State College in 1977 . He graduated all with honors. Mr. Amico is married and has three children.
